Recent St. Francis Brooklyn graduate Leah Fechko has signed with the Pyrobel Killester Ladies Superleague team for the coming season. leah’s team mates from St. Francis Brooklyn very highly of her.

It is very gratifying to see one of our players fulfilling their dream and for Leah it was to be able to play overseas. We have no doubt she will be successful in Ireland and believe she has the skills to be one of the top players in their Premier League. She is a rare talent who is ideally suited for International rules. We look forward to following her in her career,” said Terriers’ Head Coach John Thurston.
Leah is the fourth player from the Terriers’ 2014-15 NEC Championship team to sign for a team overseas. Her former teammates Katie Fox and Sarah Benedetti both also played in Ireland.
For her career she averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. The Twinsburg, Ohio native put together a significant list of accomplishments in 2016. Fechko was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the All-NEC First Team this past season. She was named the St. Francis Brooklyn Female Athlete of the Year, as well as the MVP of the women’s basketball team.
To go along with those accolades she became the 16th player in program history (women’s) to score 1,000 career-point and the only player in program history (men’s or women’s) to score over 1,200 points, record over 850 rebounds, dish out over 250 assists, and register over 200 steals in a career.
She walked across the stage at Brooklyn Bridge Park to receive her diploma on May 10 and now she has inked her first professional contract.
“I’m thankful to have the opportunity to continue to play the game I love in another country. I am excited to see where basketball takes me and to travel the world. I couldn’t thank my support system (family, friends, teammates and coaches) enough for believing in me to make my dreams a reality. I’m ready to take on this next challenge and attack any obstacles that come my way,” said Leah when commenting on signing for the Killadies.
